Nelly Korda 2021 LPGA Season by Ellie Bednarz

The LPGA 2021 season has ended after the CME Group Tour Championship concluded last week. This tournament had a purse of 5 million. This season has been full of some amazing golf, but one player who deserves the recognition as one of the best rising young stars is Nelly Korda.

Nelly is currently following in the footsteps of her older sister Jessica, who also plays on the LPGA tour. Nelly is currently in her fourth year on the tour and in 2021 holds the Rolex ranking of the number one player in the world.

So far, she has career earnings of $5,975,711 and seven victories. The 2021 season has Nelly’s name written all over it. This season alone she won four times and won the gold medal at the Tokyo Summer Olympics.

Her wins this year include the Gainbridge LPGA, the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give, KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, and the Pelican Women’s Championship.

At the end Pelican Women’s Championship, Sei Young Kim, Nelly Korda, Lexi Thompson, and Lydia Ko were all tied at the top. Therefore all four players entered a playoff. On the first hole of the playoff, Korda made a 12-foot birdie putt to seal the win.

As a native to Florida, it was one of the first times she was able to win in front of her family. 2021 has been her year and no one would be surprised if she won Women’s Golfer of the Year.

Young female golfers around the world now have another
idol to look up to. Korda is one of the top faces of women’s golf and she officially has taken the golf world by storm. She won her first major this year and has opportunities to go for the Grand Slam in majors for the rest of her career. She won a gold medal in her very first appearance at the Summer Olympics. She has also appeared on two Solheim Cup teams.

In this season alone she has placed in the top 10 for average driving distance, greens in regulation, scoring average, rounds under par, eagles, rounds in the 60’s, and sub-par holes.
