Evander Kane waived by San Jose Sharks By DJ Hamilton

The San Jose Sharks placed forward Evander Kane on waivers Sunday and plan on sending him to the AHL if he isn’t claimed by another team. It has been a turbulent season for Kane who just finished a 21-game suspension for submitting a fake vaccination card and has dealt with sexual assault allegations from his former wife Anna. Even before the suspension, Kane was told by the Sharks not to report to training camp. Sources told ESPN that multiple players in the Sharks locker room do not want Kane to return to the team.

Kane also was accused by his estranged wife of betting on NHL games earlier in the season, including his own, the Sharks, whose outcomes she claimed he intentionally sought to influence for his benefit. The NHL investigated the claims and cleared Kane, saying they found no evidence that he bet on hockey.

Kane also just switched agents recently, now being represented by Dan Milstein of Gold Star Sports, Milstein confirmed to ESPN on Sunday. Milstein is also calling teams on Kane’s behalf, according to sources, trying to help expedite a trade for his new client. Sources told ESPN that the Sharks are willing to retain some of Kane's $7 million annual salary, but it will still be a tough market.

The Sharks now say Kane is fully vaccinated and if he clears waivers will report to the San Jose Barracuda of the AHL. Kane, 30, is three years into his $49 million, seven-year contract.  He's with his third organization after being drafted by and debuting with Atlanta/Winnipeg, and a stint in Buffalo. Last season, he had 22 goals and 27 assists in 56 games.
