UCLA right tackle Alec Anderson declares for NFL Draft by DJ Hamilton

Earlier today the first member of the UCLA Bruins offense decided to go pro. UCLA football right tackle Alec Anderson has declared for the 2022 NFL Draft, he announced on Instagram on Wednesday morning. Anderson still had two years left remaining on his collegiate eligibility, but elected to forgo those years.

He is the second Bruin who left Westwood early for the NFL so far this offseason, following in the footsteps of his defensive lineman teammate in Otito Ogbonnia, while others such as kicker Qwauntrezz Knight, and left guard Paul Grattan have also declared for the draft.

Anderson first joined the program in 2018, appearing in just three games in a reserve role that year. He started three games early in 2019 before the lineup was reshuffled and he was moved into a rotational role, where he started all 17 games when he was healthy at right tackle across 2020 and 2021.

He stands a massive 6-foot-5 and weighs 305 pounds. He was one of the Bruins most physical blockers while having surplus athleticism to make him an even harder guy to get past for opposing defensive lineman.

While his draft status is currently unknown, as he is currently not in any mock drafts, don’t be surprised after the NFL Combine in March if he works his way onto a team's draft boards due to his immense physical gifts.
